And the unfortunate purchase of the day is...

Roberto Menescal - Bossa Nova: the great brazilian chill out

Hmmmm, I thought Bossa Nova was more up tempo. For that matter, I don't think there actually is any Bossa Nova on this album. It is pretty much just filled with the kind stuff they might use in, say, Leathal Weapon when the guy Riggs and Murtock were supposed to question just got thrown out of a tenth story window and the bad guy escaped again, if that makes sense. I guess I learned the hard way not to buy music at Border's (which is overpriced to begin with). I give this album zero out of five stars.

Whoopsy doodles

I accidentally ruined my VHS copy of The Hidden Fortress, so now I'm going to Netflix it to... uh... watch it and return.. yeah, that's the ticket.

I'm also having problems getting all my demo reel stuff organized on my new Dell. Life would be so much easier if they just gave me the hard drive from the computer I used at school, but I'm working around it and there are only a few minor glitches left. I still have to burn it to DVD using my mac because, well, Windows is just plain stupid and a royal pain in the butt.

Sorry for the lack of photos up here...

Kitsune

Driving down the West road at school I saw a red fox walking slowly through the undergrowth. I have seen them before, but they are usually sprinting across the road. I slowed down and stopped. The fox looked up and walked towards the car. It stood on a little hill of earth at about eye level. I looked at him and he looked at me. He was red with a dark grey tail and feet. I think he was an adult because he was about the size of a cat. It was strange and amazing at the same time. We looked at each other from about two yards apart. I thought of Sunshine Trough The Rain, the first sequence in Kurosawa's Dreams. In this sequence, a boy observes a foxes wedding ceremony and must ask forgiveness for doing so. Actually, I saw a second fox down the road, another adult. Foxes are solitary and do not live in packs, so maybe I saw a fox wedding ceremony, or maybe the concentration of foxes has something to do with the selling off of land and cutting down of wooded areas at my school. I hope the foxes have enough space to live, but I don't blame them if they don't forgive people for destroying their habitat.

TLA Screening Today!

"Ken Getting Ready To Do The News"

Seu Jorge

Thank's to a friend named Wiretap I ripped all the Seu Jorge Songs from the TLA DVD set. I took the ones off the DVD that are on the soundtrack too because they have little extra bits and may be slightly different. I also got Queen Bitch (the Seu Jorge version) from the end credit performance (which is right after the David Bowie version). Three songs that don't seem to be available in the movie or on the bonus disk in their entirety:

Ziggy Stardust
Space Oddity
When I Live My Dream

Where to send your cereal box tops and letters of complaint

Hi there. My name is Lawrence Yu and I am student of Professor Paul Lipsky, as well as a team member of his Solar Decathlon Communication's group.

I believe that most of you already know the situation the Professor is facing in terms of his tenure status. I am in the process of setting up a meeting with Dr. Edward Guiliano, President of NYIT to discuss the matter. Perhaps you may have already sent in letters / emails to his office, but if you haven't and if you can dedicate a few free moments later tonight, I would appreciate it if you could write a thoughtful letter. If you'd like, you can forward copies of your letter to me and I'd be more than happy to deliver them personally to the President.

Honestly, I believe that these notes should not be in any way angry or vindictive despite what we may know. Instead, I would suggest that you focus your ideas to demonstrate Professor Lipsky's importance to our department, school, and (personal / professional / academic and community) achievements. Of course, do this in your own words and please be as diplomatic as possible.

...in the case that you'd like to deliver the letter yourself, you can use this contact information:

Dr. Edward Guiliano
Tower House - Office of the President
NYIT
Northern Blvd.
Old Westbury, NY 11568-8000

Thank you in advance.

An interesting news piece

On May 5, 2005 John Conyers and 88 members of US Congress wrote an open letter to the White House inquiring about the new documents leaked which revealed the secret agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom to attack Iraq in 2002. The London Times reported newly-discovered documents reveal British and U.S. intentions to invade Iraq and had "discussed creating pretextual justifications for doing so". The documents go on to say that Blair decided the U.S. would need to "create" conditions to justify the war.
The 88 members of Congress, headed by Representative Conyers, say they seek an inquiry into the matter. The story broke in the United Kingdom, but has not received much coverage in the United States, prompting Conyers to lament "This should not be allowed to fall down the memory hole during wall-to-wall coverage of the Michael Jackson trial and a runaway bride."

Food Box, Go Or No Go?

***** Five Stars for The Nook
3195 Sunrise Highway
Wantagh, New York 11793
516-785-4043

If you are ever on the South shore (of Long Island!) and near Watagh, you must stop for a meal at The Nook. It seems small from the outside but there are a surprising number of tables inside. The staff is very friendly and drinks are served at the bar with a smile. The bread is of a soft, fresh-baked variety and rather tasty. Salad is served with an excellent dressing whose name I don't know. As for a main course, the strip-steak and the rigatoni a la vodka are both winners. No need for a cranny, The Nook has it all.

Scanning negetives is hard, or maybe I'm just dumb. It is kind of rewarding to scan old negetives and see photos that I never had a chance to make enlagements of though. I've been wanting to scan negetives for so long. Thank god my other printer broke so I had an excuse to get an all in one that could scan transparancies.

Who was I. U. Willets?

While driving near and on I. U. Willets Road today it dawned on me, who was I. U. Willets? I tried to google him or her but the only things that came up were addresses that were on I. U. Willets Road.

{attempting to scan negatives but probably doing it wrong}
