Inside The Magic Castle
A private club for magicians and friends of magicians with a strict dress code. There is even a secret entrance. Seems like my kind of place. I remember seeing a documentary about it when I was a kid and my brother was very interested in magic. It was mentioned on the Judge John Hodgman podcast this week.
The secret concealed door opens at around the 2 minute mark in the video.

Excerpt from Steven Lutvak's The Dinner Party
We were bagel makers to the Czar
The lineage goes back very very very far
I think Ivan was the one
Who when fed up with the bun
Sent his men in search of something starchy and bizarre
Who came upon my uncle who had recently solved the riddle
Of how to make a roll with a hole in the middle
He served them fresh to Ivan's commissar
And was thus named bagel maker to the Czar

Close and Medium Reconnaissance
Mark from The Winter Of '79 answers my question about the designation of reconnaissance units in the British Army; What is the difference between close reconnaissance and medium reconnaissance.
Hi Scott
The Medium Recce finds the enemy. Close Recce defines the extent of the enemy or nature of obstacles at any given site by getting up close and personal.
Cheers
Mark

My name appears in the New York Times
And not under the headline 'Long Island Man Gets Lost In Penn Station'. No, I have a photo credit from my photos of Cabaret at the John Engeman Theater. Click to see the photo and credit (and read the review):
