Weihenstephaner Kristall Weissbier: I've never had a kristall or kristallweizen (filtered) wheat beer. Its light color and clarity belies its body and strong flavor. What looks almost like Corona is ready to shock anyone thinking they're in for an easy drinking bud substitute. This is the full wheat flavor without the suspended cloudiness.

Beer Basket Review #5
Georg Schneider's Wiesen Edel-Weisse (Organic): This beer had a strong wheat and fruit flavor with a sweet finish.

Beer Basket Review #4
Kapuziner Weissbier: This one had a good, strong wheat and fruit flavor like Franziskaner with the addition of a tiny bit of bitterness (the "yeasty tang" that is advertised on the bottle.) As with most beers that have a monk on the bottle, you can't go wrong, although this monk is a bit creepy (perhaps an allusion to the bitter undertone).

Beer Basket Review #3
Julius Echter Premium Weissbier: Brewed by Würzburger Hofbräu in Würzburg, this is an easy drinking wheat beer with no strong tones. Its like Franziskaner watered down with a pils. It was good, but it did not seem to have any strong flavor.

Beer Basket Review #2
Tonight I had Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier. It was very dark and very smokey. In fact, it tasted like smoked mozzarella purée. At first taste, I was not enthralled, but it grew on me as I had it. Its not something I would buy by the keg, but it good if you're out for a adventure in tasting. Ellen didn't like it or the smell that developed in the room from my glass, my breath, and the open bottle. The key word here is smokey.

Beer Basket Review
Ellen got me a basket full of wheat beer for my birthday. Here is what I drank so far:
Sam Adams Hefeweizen: This had a weird flavor for a wheat beer. The also have a Cherry Wheat I'd like to try.
Hacker-Pschorr: I've had this before. They have it at Croxley's and anywhere else where there is a fair variety of international beers. Its a good standby and is a good substitute for Paulaner.
Hofbräu Dunkel: I just drank this one. I don't think it is a wheat beer (in fact I'm pretty sure its not). I don't think I have stuffy nose or anything, but this beer was virtually tasteless with a very slight chocolatey hint. It was fairly full bodied which I would expect from a beer of its color and darkness.
